    Setting up your workspace to ensure productivity and comfort is incredibly important, and your eyes play a major role in getting your job done. Keeping your eyes healthy is essential, and there are some proper ways to set up your workspace to ensure that you reduce strain on your eyes.

    It doesn’t matter if you are in an office building, a home office, the library or a coffee shop, you need to make sure your workspace is set up properly to protect your eyes. Here is how to set up a proper workspace for your eyes:

    The Right Lighting

    If your computer screen is brighter than the rest of your office, this will create eyestrain. The right lightning can reduce the chances of this happening. Setting up your workspace near a window is a great way to be exposed to natural light, but if that’s not possible, consider adding lamps or other light sources to your desk to illuminate your space.

    The Position of Your Monitor

    Whether you’re working on a desktop or a laptop, the monitor should be placed between 20 and 25 inches away from your face. Typically, this is about an arm’s length away. If you find that it’s hard to see your screen when it’s this far away, you might consider getting a larger monitor. That will also reduce eye strain and ensure that you can see what you’re working on.

    It’s also recommended that the center of the monitor be below your line of sight by about 15 degrees, as this allows your eyes to easily return to resting gaze. Monitors that are too high can also strain your neck, which can cause pain or headaches. Having your monitor at the right distance and in the right position will reduce eye fatigue and ensure you can work for as long as possible.

    Be Aware of Light from Your Screen

    Blue light is produced from a variety of different sources, including the sun, artificial light and your computer monitor. Too much exposure to blue light can impact your eye health and vision. To protect yourself while working, you might consider wearing glasses that block the blue light from getting into your eyes.

    Another issue you have to worry about when it comes to your computer screen is glare, which can aggravate your eyes. One way to reduce glare from your computer is to get a matte screen cover. You can also wear glasses that have an anti-reflective coating. You’ll also want to make sure that the lighting in your office doesn’t reflect off your screen, as that can cause glare as well.

    Be Kind to Your Eyes

    Setting up your workspace in an eye-friendly manner ensures that you’ll be productive throughout the day and reduce discomfort, including redness, dry eye, eyestrain and headaches.

    Not only should your workspace be set up properly, but you need to make sure you take breaks every once in a while. It’s advised that you follow the 20-20-20 rule. This says that every 20 minutes, you need to focus on an object that is 20 feet away for a minimum of 20 seconds. This is the equivalent of stretching your eyes.
