By understanding the frame size you already wear, you can ensure a perfect fit almost every time!

When buying glasses online, one of the biggest things to consider is frame size. How do you know which size is right for you? Fear not, we’ve got you covered on how to find the perfect fit for you!

Frame Dimensions

To start, let’s take a look at a pair of glasses you already own. If listed, they may have three of the most important numbers to note when ordering glasses. They might be something like 52-16-140. From left to right, these are the size measurements that represent the lens width, bridge, and temple length. On certain frames, a fourth number may be listed on the arms that represents the lens height. Please keep in mind that all frame measurements are in millimeters.

Lens Height

This is the vertical height of the lens at its tallest point within the frame. Our average range is from 22mm to 52mm.

NOTE: This measurement is very important to consider when choosing a frame for bifocals/progressives. The lens height must be at least 30mm to accommodate either design.

Frame Width

This is the overall width from hinge to hinge of the frame itself. While this value is rarely listed on most frames, it is a very important factor to consider.

NOTE: To find a size similar to what you have, you can use a ruler to measure along the top front of your frame. Then you can multiply the value in inches by 25.4 to find the millimeter equivalent and compare frames.

Temple Length

This is the length of the temple arm of the frame, and it starts from the hinge. Our average range is from 115mm to 155mm.

Lens Width

This is the horizontal width of each individual lens at its widest point. Our average range is from 42mm to 60mm.

Bridge Width

This is the distance between the lenses and is the space where the frame attaches the lenses.

We have frames of every size for the entire family!

How To Filter By Size

If you have a current pair of glasses with these measurements, finding a new pair on our site is even easier! You can filter frames on our site by using those numbers for reference.

Matching Dimensions

If you have the three main dimensions listed on your frames, you can search by these numbers directly on our website using the Filter bar. By clicking on the “Size” option and selecting the “Your Frame” tab, you can enter the lens width, bridge, and temple length measurements to view a list of similar fitting frames.

Click “Your Frame” to plug in your dimensions directly to view a list of similar sizes!

Size Ranges

Depending on whether you want your new glasses to be bigger, smaller, or about the same, you can also set ranges for dimensions on our site. By clicking on Size followed by the individual options for lens width, bridge, and more, you will open the menu to set a millimeter range of the given dimension. Drag the bars to provide a range for yourself and supply even more frame options!

Drag the bars to set ranges for multiple dimensions and provide more options!

Even at manufactured prices, prescription glasses are an investment! The time and energy put into choosing the perfect pair for you definitely should not be wasted. Follow along with our tips and tricks to always keep your Payne glasses at their best!

Cleaning Your Glasses

Daily wear results in daily dust and smudges, both of which can affect your vision! Here are some things to keep in mind when tidying up your specs:

  • Clean Your Lenses Daily
After a day on the go, your glasses are sure to gradually accumulate debris over time. A quick tidy a day will cut back on having a dirty field of view.
  • Polish Using Our Cloth
When you order with us, your glasses come with a deluxe microfiber cloth designed specifically for cleaning your lenses. This heavy-duty cloth gets those smears and smudges off as well as all other debris.
  • Just Water
With our glasses, we make it easy! Aside from the cloth, we only recommend using a bit of warm water along with our cloth to clean your glasses. Purchasing other cleaning solutions and products will not be necessary!

Storing Your Glasses

The longevity of your glasses can be directly dependent on how well you store them, both at home and on the move. Take a look at these tips for keeping your glasses in prime condition:

  • Keep Your Glasses In The Case
An obvious one, we know! Storing your glasses in the case will protect them during travel by preventing accidental damage, such as bents or scratches. It’s recommended to place your glasses in the case facing upwards so they’re less susceptible to scratches during travel. We also recommend to keep or even order an extra case to have as a backup!
  • Avoid Extreme Temperatures
This goes especially for sunglasses, but avoid leaving any pair of glasses in an overly hot area for extended periods of time. Heat can warp both the frame and the lenses quickly over time in extreme temperatures. Be sure to never leave your glasses on the car dashboard when parked in direct sunlight!
  • Set Your Glasses Down Carefully
If you ever do need to place your glasses down without a case, do so with care. Make sure to never place your glasses on any surface with the lenses facing down. This can very easily damage your lenses in a short amount of time. You’ll always want to fold the temple arms in and rest them with the lenses facing upwards.

For all of your glasses care needs, check out our Payne Glasses selection of eyeglass accessories, including eyeglass cases, cleaning cloths, eyeglass straps, and even clip-on shades!

beginners progressives

Beginner’s progressives are great for first-time wearers!

Have you been thinking about trying out progressives for the first time? If so, consider our Easy Adapt Beginners Progressives!

These lenses will gradually ease your eyes into the design of progressives.

What They Do

Beginners progressives are comprised with a wider corridor than the regular progressives. In order to achieve this, the strength of the prescription is slightly pulled back, allowing new wearers an easier time to ease into the design of the progressives. This is one of the main reasons why it is only recommended for first-time wearers, as the strength will feel too light for regular wearers.

Beginner’s progressives have a wider corridor and lighter strength than regular progressives, making the lenses easier to adapt to for new wearers!

How They’ll Help You

Beginner’s progressives are specifically developed to provide a smooth transition between distance and near vision. These lenses have an extra-soft design that are ideal for a quick and easy adaptation, high precision, and minimal lateral distortion. It also relieves you from the hassle of switching between distance glasses and reading glasses. Treat yourself to a new and comfortable point of view with this premium style!

Drive progressives help you stay safe on the road!

Signs, headlights, and weather, oh my! The act of driving can be rough in itself, which is why it’s paramount to be able to see clearly. With driving progressives, they will ease your mind and improve your vision at the same time!

What Are Drive Progressives?

We designed our driving progressives to keep your vision clear and help you drive without unnecessary head movement. Due to the special location of mirrors and dashboard, the lens power is distributed to provide a generous distance portion with decreased intermediate and reading areas.

You can see your mirrors without turning away from the road with drive progressives.

What They Do

Drive Progressives supply wearers with extended areas of peripheral, intermediate, and distance vision, allowing better focus on the dashboard and road. The lens design provides superior visual acuity when driving while additionally reducing stress and visual fatigue. These factors are a common occurrence when driving at night, which is why these lenses have an enhanced design that is beneficial for night driving.

Both zones are optimized for driving!

How They’ll Help You

Did you know that 43% of drivers feel apprehensive or insecure while driving at night? If you find yourself included in this response, not to worry! Night myopia, which causes a loss of the ability to focus on objects at night, affects 1 in 3 wearers. The good news is that there are solutions to this, drive progressives being one of them! In addition to our lenses having an optimized zone specific for night myopia, the lenses also have a 45% larger visual field in the distance and intermediate portion, along with having over 14% less lateral astigmatism. These benefits make your vision better while driving in every way and with all lighting conditions!

See clearly and stay safe with drive progressives!

Which Lenses Are Right For You? https://www.payneglasses.com/blog/which-lenses-are-right-for-you/ https://www.payneglasses.com/blog/which-lenses-are-right-for-you/#respond Fri, 27 Sep 2019 18:27:42 +0000 https://www.payneglasses.com/blog/?p=573 A guide to choosing the right eyeglass lenses - single vision, bifocal, and progressive lenses comparison.

The post Which Lenses Are Right For You? appeared first on Payne Glasses Blog.

]]>

You’ve scheduled that appointment, completed your eye exam, and success, you’ve obtained your prescription! You are now ready to order online for a new pair of glasses! There’s just one question: which eyeglasses lens type are right for you?

We’re here to help.

Single Vision vs Bifocal vs Progressive Lenses

Single Vision: same prescription across the entirety of the lens surface; distance OR near

Bifocals: distance lenses that include bottom portion for close-range vision; distance AND near

Progressive: lenses gradually transition from distance down into near-vision; distance, mid, and close-range vision

what is progressive lensesSingle Vision Lenses

Single vision lenses are the most common. They are used to correct either nearsightedness or farsightedness, as the prescription strength is the same across the entirety of the lens. This makes these lenses ideal for distance only activities such as driving and sports in addition to near-vision needs, such as reading or office/computer work.

While single vision lenses usually do prove to be the most affordable along with being the easiest to adjust to, it rarely is a forever situation. As you get older, around the 40-year old mark, you will start to notice that your eyes are changing as well. In most cases, it may begin with your reading vision isn’t as clear as it used to be, or maybe even your distance start to feel weakened. While some people prefer to just keep two pairs of glasses on-hand at all times, both a distance-only pair and a reading-only pair, an easier alternative is to opt for just one pair of bifocal or progressive glasses!

Bifocal Lenses

The time has come. Your eye doctor has recommended bifocal glasses. Your mind immediately associates the word bifocals with old, grandparents, or Benjamin Franklin! This is normal and common in most people over the age of 40 who wear eyeglasses.

A bifocal is a lens with two powers within the same lense. Need a pair of glasses to see both near and far? That is where a bifocal lens comes into play! No need to carry around two pairs of glasses anymore when you can have both prescriptions in the same lens.

A line will divide the two prescriptions. The top viewing area of the glasses will be for your distance vision. Below the line, in a smaller viewing area will be your reading segment. The visible line can be intrusive, but we recommend wearing them often so your eyes can adjust to them!

bifocal lenses

Progressives Lenses

Progressives, also known as no-line bifocals, are able to provide a smooth shift from distance down into near-vision. With this lens type, there is an intermediate zone for for computer and TV viewing. With the added middle corridor, it makes it easy to transition between both distance and near. The invisible feature of progressives makes the style popular for cosmetic reasons alone, in addition to the multi-focal use.

Sometimes, progressive lenses are inadvertently confused with trifocal lenses. While both styles are similar due to having three viewing corridors, the two are very different. Like bifocals, trifocals are also lined and actually include three distinct prescriptions within the lenses. With the progressive no-line design, the lens begins at the top with the distance prescription and gradually changes in strength. The middle of the lens will contain the intermediate prescription and the bottom will be the reading prescription. This “graduation” of lens strength is what enables the lens to be one complete piece without lines.

Due to the design of the progressive lenses, there is usually an adjustment period. This is because there are areas of distortion on the lens which do not contain the wearer’s exact prescription. That is why is it so important to have an accurate PD when ordering progressives lenses. This ensures the wearer will look through the portion of the lens which contains their exact Rx.
