    Face Protection During COVID-19

Nationwide, federal health officials are recommending citizens to wear non-medical face masks in public in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus). Masks are highly suggested in addition to the practice of hand-washing and social distancing to protect against direct exposure.

While the virus is commonly spread via the mouth or nose, coronavirus can be spread through contact with any mucous membrane. This includes the conjunctiva, the membrane that shields a portion of the eyes, therefore putting the eyes at risk for contamination. By using protection such as glasses (no contacts!), goggles, or face shields in junction with a face mask, the threat of exposure can be significantly reduced.

While face masks have been seen to prevent the wearer from spreading the virus to others, please be advised that there is no evidence that supports prevention from contracting the virus at this time. It is always recommended to wash/sanitize hands before putting masks on and to avoid touching the face as much as possible when out in public. Additionally, the CDC advises that those with breathing difficulties, children under the age of 2, and any person who is unable to remove a mask on their own should avoid wearing face masks, particularly masks made of cloth material.

For those in need of personal protective equipment such as face masks, goggles, thermometers, and more, please visit www.pmedi.com. PMEDI is a subdivision of Payne Glasses and available for specific safety needs during this time of crisis.
